Young Jean notched another trophy, finishing third in the Lydd 2011/12 Winter Series. This followed another podium in the March 2012 race, when he finished third.
Racing in dry conditions, Jean complained of poor grip in qualifying, and could only manage 6th. Following Jean’s feedback and a few tweaks to the kart, Jean found the kart much more to his liking. He drove a great first heat, with some great overtaking moves that moved him up to third place finish. In Heat 2, Jean led most of the way, finishing in second place at the end.
The combined results meant that Jean started the final in 2nd place and on the unfancied outside row. Jean dropped to fifth place going into the first chicane, but quickly recovered and took the lead on the first lap. Unfortunately an over optimistic move by one of his competitors resulted in Jean being bumped off the track and dropping back into 6th and a way back from the leaders. Jean dug deep and following a big battle with another three karts, pulled a great move on the final lap to clinch third and secure his third place in the Lydd Honda Cadet 2011/12 Winter Championship.
Jean races next at the Glan y Gors club meeting in Wales, in preparation for the British S1 Championship round at the same circuit in May.
